Walaas Handschrift sei so schlecht, in der Schule könne man noch nicht einmal ihre Arbeiten bewerten, erzählt ihre Mutter, die als vermeintliche Attentäterin acht Jahre in einem israelischen Gefängnis verbracht hat. Aber für die Schule interessiert sich Walaa ohnehin nicht. Sie möchte schnellstmöglich der Palästinensischen Autonomiebehörde beitreten, einer quasistaatlichen Einrichtung, welche die palästinensischen Autonomiegebiete im Westjordanland und in Gaza verwaltet. Walaa will eine Waffe tragen, Polizistin werden. Von ihrem 15. bis zum 20. Lebensjahr begleitet der Dokumentar lm die aufmüpfige Walaa. Stets auf Augenhöhe mit der jungen Protagonistin zeichnet Garland ein intimes Portrait des rebellischen Mädchens, das teils unkontrolliert, aber hartnäckig seinem Traum folgt.

Walaa‘s handwriting is so bad, her school assignments cannot even be graded, says her mother, who was incarcerated in an Israeli prison for eight years for allegedly aiding an assassination. But Walaa is not interested in school anyway. As quickly as possible, she wants to join the Palestinian National Authority, the body governing the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza. Walaa wants to carry a gun; she wants to be a police officer. The documentary follows the obstreperous young woman over the course of five years, from age 15 to 20. Always maintaining a level playing field with her young protagonist, Christy Garland gives an intimate look at the rebellious girl fighting at times uncontrollably but tenaciously for her dream.
